meeting your love on a one-way ticket to paradise

It's been a beautiful, but oh so testing 8 or 9 months of waiting for each other. We met in a fairy tale story. The kind you make movies about. On a train, in France. She was coming home from visiting her grandmother, and I was on my way to Spain to fly home to Portland after having seen my mother in her new home in the south of France.

We fell in love, and we leaped for it. All 5,000 miles of it. Across one continent and over one ocean. In the last 8 or 9 months we have seen each other back and forth and in in-between places, but now for the first time we will finally be living together.

However, we don't quite yet know where we will end up settling. Instead we picked a starting point where we can start traveling together and we figure that we can feel things out where we go and stay longer in places we like.

Our first stop is Costa Rica! I leave tomorrow on the plane. Like a repeat in time, I am once again traveling with only my backpack for a home. It feels great, but also a little hard to imagine yet. I think the full reality of it will only fully be clear to me once I am on the plane, or in the arms of my loved one Laura in Costa Rica.

I really like that Laura and I are starting our relationship with a honey moon! What a great way to start our time together. So I think for the first 2 or so weeks we won't be doing much other than relaxing, preferably on a beach!

After that we are thinking of heading towards Panama and then looping back through the Pacific side of Costa Rica into Nicaragua. That is if we don't get sidetracked, or pleasantly-delayed along the way.

I am thrilled at this nee opportunity again to re-define my ways, to hone and perfect my direction, and to do so with a woman I love with all my heart.

It was sad saying bye to my friends in Portland. Life has been good here, and I will miss the family I have created here in my 3 years. Tonight is my last night in Portland, a final dinner with a few friends and then tomorrow is my final night-flight!
